Healthy Living“Healthy Living” John 10:10 “I came to give life—life in all its fullness.” (NCV) Our mission at Community Covenant Church is to help people “Change Lives ~ On Purpose.” One of the great things about our church is that we are always looking for ways to be part of our community and meet real needs. People struggle with all kinds of issues, both physical and emotional. Sean Smith, one of our church pastors and counselors who works with people in a variety of life stages, has recently been drawn by God to come alongside people who struggle with their weight. It started when Sean first began watching “The Biggest Loser” on television. He would find himself watching with tears running down his face. He was moved by real people sharing their stories about how being overweight had robbed them of living their life, going after their dreams, and feeling like they were stuck in a self-induced prison. When he heard them share that as parents they weren’t able to get on the floor to play with their kids, or they weren’t able to do activities they once loved, Sean thought, “This is not the life that God intended for them.” Watching the show, Sean felt empathy and compassion for the pain these people were experiencing, but was also moved with tears of joy from seeing people’s lives changed. Season after season, contestants said, “Thanks, you’ve changed my life.” “Now, I know I can do anything – I’ve got my whole life in front of me and now I’m ready to start living it.” These wonderful declarations caused Sean to prayerfully consider how we as a church could help others who face similar challenges and impact their lives for Christ. During this time, Sean says, “I kept feeling God tug at my heart. What are you going to do about it? I’ve wired you in such a way to help others – now go and do it. One of my passions and purposes is to help inspire and equip others to “get in the game of life” and experience it to the fullest in Christ. God has a plan and a purpose for each of us and I want everyone to maximize their joy and participation on that journey – to see people set free - able to play with their kids, enjoy their friends, and help build the kingdom of God.” “If This Is Your Struggle” If you are struggling with being overweight, then “Healthy Living” may be just what you need. “Healthy Living” is much more than a program! Anyone who has struggled with weight knows all about the latest diets, exercise routines, and the importance of tracking calories. So, as a church, we’re not trying to convince you of a “NEW” program; we’re motivated to walk with you on a journey toward Healthy Living. It’s about support and community; it’s about prayer and love. It’s about joining with others who have similar struggles. It’s about learning and growing together as we work toward realizing the fullness of life that Christ has for each of us. There’s a great verse in the bible that talks about our bodies, worship, and change; it’s the difference between participating in a program and truly being set free. Romans 12:1-2 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (NIV) Those who have overcome being overweight have done so not because of a program, but because they had a change in mindset. Their lives were transformed because they started viewing food differently, and out of this “renewed mind” they have been able to experience sustained and consistent change. This is what we want for you! Lasting change starts with a changed mindset, but of course, actions must follow. So, although a program is not the main objective of “Healthy Living,” we all need to start with something. Hence, we will be offering an exercise program, “The Biggest Winner” (coming soon) and a weight loss program, "PRISM" to help equip and empower you to realize lasting results. We have a wonderful group of people who are passionate and experienced – think Bob and Jillian – who will come alongside to help you to help yourself. Our goal is to empower and equip you so that during our time together you will learn the various exercises and nutritional information, so ultimately, you will be able to do this yourself. One of the most important things you need to realize is that you’re not alone. We are truly “Better Together.” You are encouraged to bring a friend or family member but if not, there will be others involved that you can team up with for built-in support and encouragement. We are excited about teaming up with you on your journey to Healthy Living – Body, Mind, and Spirit!
